Costs...
How much does it all cost?
£109, using your own bike. Allow for your petrol costs too.
Here's the cost breakdown:
- One charge of £109 buys associate membership of WaBAM, a copy of "How to be an Advanced Motorcyclist", the IAM Test fee and first year subscription to the IAM upon passing your test.
- We recommend you shell out a further £12 for a copy of Motorcycle Roadcraft, which can be purchased from "any good bookshop".
- While definitely voluntary, we recommend you give a small contribution to your Observer when training to cover petrol and the wear and tear on their own bikes. A sum of £7 per ride is the norm, with a maximum of ten contributions.
FAQs
- Can bikes be hired?
No
- What's the difference between IAM and WaBAM costs?
Membership of WaBAM costs £12 per year, but this is only payable after you have passed your test. The IAM Skills for Life package includes your first year with WaBAM. However, to be a full member of WaBAM, you must also be a member of the IAM, which will cost you £18 per year.
- Possible savings (insurance, dealer discounts)
Discuss this with your insurance company.
- How can potential members pay (cheque / CC / etc and to whom?)
IAM HQ payments can be made by cheque or credit card direct to the IAM with your SFL form. WaBAM accepts cheques or cash paid to WaBAM via the Treasurer. Once you have passed the IAM test, WaBAM will invite you to complete a Standing Order form for automatic payment of £12 each year from your bank. By using a Standing Order rather that Direct Debit, you retain control over payments to WaBAM.
