Costs...
How much does it all cost?
£139, using your own bike. Allow for your petrol costs too.
Here's the cost breakdown:
- One charge of £139 buys associate membership of WaBAM, a copy of "How to be an Advanced Motorcyclist", the IAM Test fee and first year subscription to the IAM upon passing your test.
- We recommend you shell out a further £12 for a copy of Motorcycle Roadcraft, which can be purchased from "any good bookshop".
- Your Observer is a volunteer, who gives freely of their time and gets no expenses
from the IAM to run their vehicle. The Observer should ask you for a
contribution of £7 per ride to cover fuel and running costs. If they don't,
please offer it as it is often overlooked. We will only expect a contribution
to a maximum of ten sessions, regardless of how many you need.
Sponsorship
-
WaBAM is dedicated to
maximising the training for all and appreciates that some potential associates
are put off by the “hit to the pocket” costs and that whilst wishing to
improve their safety and rider skills find the outlay prohibitive. As such we
have several WaBAM members who are prepared to sponsor or assist in the
purchase of a Skill for Life for deserving cases.
-
If you fall into this
category and wish to be considered for sponsorship, write to or email the
Membership Secretary
dungrove(a)yahoo.com explaining why you should be
considered. All cases will be considered monthly by a panel and deserving
applicants will be put in touch with a WaBAM benefactor as soon as a decision
is made. This process does take time so please allow for this after
submission of an application
FAQs
- Can bikes be hired?
No
- What's the difference between IAM and WaBAM costs?
Membership of WaBAM costs £12 per year, but this is only payable after you have passed your test. The IAM Skills for Life package includes your first year with WaBAM. However, to be a full member of WaBAM, you must also be a member of the IAM, which will cost you £28 per year.
- Possible savings (insurance, dealer discounts)
Discuss this with your insurance company.
- How can potential members pay (cheque / CC / etc and to whom?)
IAM HQ payments can be made by cheque or credit card direct to the IAM with your SFL form. WaBAM accepts cheques or cash paid to WaBAM via the Treasurer. Once you have passed the IAM test, WaBAM will invite you to complete a Standing Order form for automatic payment of £12 each year from your bank. By using a Standing Order rather that Direct Debit, you retain control over payments to WaBAM.
