‘Wiltshire on the Edge’

CLIC Sargent Charity Ride –

WABAM (Wilts and Bath Advanced Motorcyclists) have organised a sponsored charity ride in aid of CLIC Sargent, on the 19th May 2019 around the boundaries of its IAM RoadSmart defined catchment area.

“CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children, young people, and their families. They provide clinical, practical and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life. They give support from diagnosis onwards and aim to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment and, in some cases, bereavement.

Note – CLIC Sargent (Cancer and Leukaemia in Children) Registered charity number 1107328.

The Charity Ride will be administered by Rob Blackburn (one of WABAM’s committee members), who found out just how effective the charity is following his 3-year-old granddaughter’s diagnosis of Leukaemia at Easter 2018. Poppy is responding well to treatment, but that treatment takes over 2 years and is extremely tough.

He and his wife have pledged to raise £2000 by the end of 2019 for CLIC so they can continue helping other families in the future. This ride would be one of the events that helps them reach that target.

Ride Format

The event will consist of two club led rides organised under the IAM format. One route will be approximately 150 miles and will constitute a Full Day Members ride, open to IAM Full members from WABAM and other IAM clubs.

The second ride will be 100 miles to allow the event to be open to both IAM full and AssociateMembers as a Half Day Ride.

The event will be pre-registered and separate waves will be organised with individual lead riders so the two rides can follow the same morning route.

Both Full and Half day events will start at 9.30 from Chippenham Services on the A350 and will stop for lunch at Lechlade Village Hall (between 1.00 and 3.00 pm, dependant on waves), where Chilli( meat or vegetarian), jacket potatoes, cake and a warm drink will be provided to participants.

All participants will need to sign up to the rides early as numbers will be limited and the entry will close two weeks in advance of the event ie 6th May.

Each entrant will need to confirm they will contribute at least £25 of sponsorship/donation to the charity.

Individuals will be provided with an identification sticker. The route can be provided on request prior to the run.
